There are birthdays that are celebrated in one afternoon, and others that extend over an entire weekend. For her 50th birthday, Anna didn’t want big fireworks or a formal dinner at a restaurant. She wanted time. Quality time with the people she loves, without rush, and in a place where she could share laughter, meals, walks, and memories. And she found the perfect setting: Mas Redortra, a rural farmhouse surrounded by nature, near the Bellmunt Sanctuary, with breathtaking views over the Plana de Vic.

Friday evening: reunions and wine in the fresh air
The first guests arrived on Friday evening. Anna, visibly emotional, greeted each one with a sincere smile and a glass of wine from a producer in Osona. On the porch of the main building, a long table covered with white linen tablecloths was already waiting for them, illuminated with string lights and candles. Homemade tapas and local cheeses were served while, in the background, a playlist specially made for the occasion played, filled with songs that marked different stages of her life.

Saturday of excursions and a memory workshop
The next day, after a hearty breakfast with cold cuts, bread with tomato, and homemade jams, the groups split up to do different activities. Some walked up to the Bellmunt Sanctuary, while others—especially families with children—stayed at the property, where the housekeeper took them to see the chickens.
Meanwhile, in one of the indoor salons, one of Anna’s nieces had organized a “memory workshop.” Everyone could write down a memorable moment with her on a piece of paper and pin it to a cord crossing the room. In the afternoon, these notes would be read aloud. The first pages were filled with funny sentences: “The first time you ate sushi and thought wasabi was guacamole.” “When you got lost in Amsterdam and ended up befriending a tram driver.” “Your obsession with collecting jazz CDs that you never listened to.”

Birthday dinner and letters with natural centerpieces
As the sunset painted the sky orange, everyone dressed a little more elegantly for the birthday dinner. Inside the barn, dishes made with local products were served: fig and blue cheese salad, free-range chicken with plums and rosemary potatoes, and for dessert, a cheesecake with seasonal strawberries.
After the toast, one of the most emotional moments of the weekend arrived: the reading of the notes from the “memory workshop.” Anna listened with bright eyes as words full of affection, irony, and tenderness were read aloud. To end, each person wrote a letter that she would only read when she turns 60. A kind of time capsule written with love.

Quiet sunday: slow coffees and final hugs
The next day, the sun slowly entered through the bedroom windows. The morning was leisurely. Coffees in hand, conversations in the garden, and knowing glances. No one wanted to leave too early. The magic of the weekend still hung in the air.
Not everyone can say they celebrated their birthday surrounded by animals, gardens, mountains, and people who love them. But Anna can. Mas Redortra was more than a venue: it was a refuge, a temporary home that hosted a weekend full of meaning. And for everyone who was there, it’s a small story that will be kept in the drawer of memories forever.
Thank you, Anna, for trusting Mas Redortra.
